Abstract

The Nemi Museum of Roman Ships is part of the Institute of the Ministry of Culture and falls under the wing of the Lazio Regional Museums Directorate. It stands as a monument to human ingenuity. The current state of the Museum’s preservation poses challenges stemming from both the times in which it was built, and subsequent attempts to redress any problems that might have arisen. Since the war, limited, and for the most part emergency interventions have gradually altered the original design, without effectively resolving any basic structural problems. Following the loss of its original content, the Museum layout and visitor route has undergone successive alterations. Various interventions, sometimes lacking cohesion, have resulted in a partial rearrangement of the Museum display, based on different criteria and exhibition approaches. A multidisciplinary approach was put in motion in 2020, piecing together a comprehensive analysis of the numerous challenges and issues that the Museum faces. The goal is to develop a coordinated plan that offers holistic and systematic solutions, for a definitive and harmonious result.
