Abstract

The entrenched camp of Rome, built between 1877 and 1891, was no longer considered among the city's fortifications by 1919. Since then the forts have found themselve gradually surrounded by an urban expansion that treated them as foreign elements, as tears in the urban fabric and green space. The article describes the current situation of the forts, the widespread ongoing processes of deterioration, the sets of administrative measures intended to safeguard them and the research carried out by the authors, whose goal is the definition of an operational methodology based on a targeted understanding and specific to each artifact.
