Abstract

In 2014, Il Mulino reprinted "Alle radici della cavalleria medievale", a text by Franco Cardini originally published in 1981. The article returns to this book and the lively debate that followed its publication. Although the discussion regarding "Alle radici" concentrated primarily on the political ideas of its author, it is more significant to investigate its historical perspective, along with the methodology deployed. The article proposes that the book traces its origins to a traditionalist cultural environment that strongly influenced its structure and ideas.
