Abstract
In 1966, Santo Mazzarino published, in "Rinascita", the Italian Communist Party's political/cultural weekly, a reflection on the studies of Emilio Sereni (renowned mostly for his work "History of the Italian Agricultural Landscape") on the practices of viticulture in the protohistoric Mediterranean. Mazzarino's article went largely unnoticed, but is of sufficient interest to justify new publication: comparison between the two great scholars reveals a broad panorama of cultural encounters, traces of which persist even to the present day.
