Abstract
The essay is focused on social and historical development of the Roman neighbourhood Tor Pignattara. By means of historiographical ad memory sources, it analyzes the long process of neighbourhood identities' construction. Cross-referencing interviews of local residents from different generations and with different nationalities, and social studies about Tor Pignattara, it describes the community of men and women in the context of immigration waves, urban work and city space. The outcome is an historical reflection on neighbourhood identity in a metropolitan area of Rome.
