Abstract
The religious wars in Europe, the conflicts with the Turkish world and the planetary colonial expansion resulted in an important increase of martyrs' stories at the end of 15th century. Their role in the mentality of that epoch was the result of the combination of various media (icons, orals and printout writings), which are objects of study in this article. The main effect in the Spanish society was the acceptance of the martyrdom as a part of saintliness.
