Abstract
For few years the Italian historiography, following the European one, has focused its attention on the regulation processes of soldiers and propaganda of the "correct war" put in place by the Church. These themes nevertheless have been a little explored about the southern Italy. The paper aims to trace the runs through which in the Midday the theme of the holy war and the regulation of the military masses were practiced by the Church, meeting the chivalrous spirit of the local aristocracy and finding in the war to the Turks a field that united the noble warlike spirit and the push to the holy war.
