Abstract
The article focuses on the relationships between the characteristics of pension systems and various types of economic inequality. In particular, the focus is on the effect on inequality within the same generation of individuals engendered by different pension computation formulas. The article pursues three main goals: i) provide a conceptual framework of the many possible links between pension systems and possible dimensions of inequality; ii) assess how the long-lasting process of pension reforms in Italy have impacted on inequality; iii) suggest policy measures that may help reducing inequality among pensioners also when labour market inequality rises.
