Abstract
The great and unprecedented movement of international solidarity set in motion by the military coup and the establishment of the dictatorial Pinochet regime in Chile was a reflection of a shift in ‘global consciousness’ marked by a new awareness of the value of human rights. The Russell II Tribunal for Brazil, Chile and Latin America was one of the main venues for this transnational activism and denounced first-hand the crimes committed by the dictatorship.
