Abstract
Nelson Mandela embodies an absolutely unique idea and practice of humanity in the history of the twentieth century. The experience of his long struggle to fight apartheid and complete the transition to democracy in South Africa has found in his election as the president of the republic and in the formation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission the most significant moment of this long commitment.
