Abstract
The 2007/2009 food crisis revealed to the whole world the impact that speculation and financial interests have on access to food and food security. However, when we talk about food and finance it is important to realize that the role private equity funds, pension funds, special purpose vehicles and hedge funds goes far beyond commodity trading and indexes. From consumption to land, financial capital is redefining every single aspect of the food system according to its interests and vision. As a consequence, the struggle against financialization is not only simply a fight against commodification and capitalism, but the needed attempt to avoid the definitive collapse of ecological and socially sustainable practices.
