Abstract
This article presents the results of a research on productivity agreements, conducted on 350 company level collective agreements signed in the metalworking industry in Lombardy, between 2008-13. The quantitative dimension of productivity agreements within the sample, shows that the multi-employer bargaining system does not fit for the purpose to guarantee that decentralized collective bargaining is functional to productivity, as national sectoral collective agreements are functional to defend the purchasing power.
