Abstract

Mariana Mazzucato's book is a breath of fresh air in the discussion about contemporary capitalism, its crisis and the construction of a progressive economic policy. The main reason is that Mazzucato's argument cuts across the usual positions in the current debate. In Europe this debate very often is reduced to the alternative "yes/no" to the euro, or the criticism of austerity. In this short intervention, after a summary of Mazzucato's book, I shall present some theses about Neoliberalism, the global crisis, and the European difficulties. I think that the two discourses are complementary and convergent.
