The critical edition of Dante’s Commedia: exemplary or unique case?
Abstract
Discussing the solutions offered by various recent editions (Sanguineti, Inglese, Tonelli-Trovato), this essay examines characteristic aspects of the text (very high number of witnesses, conceptual quality) and more general methodological problems (contamination, evaluation of late witnesses, elimination of superfluous witnesses).
