It is not possible to talk about «reconstruction» by focusing only on genital surgical correction and surgical technique. Psychosexual therapy, health education, knowledge of one’s anatomy and physiology, such as deconstructing myths and taboos about women’s sexuality, with or without surgery, and trauma therapy, are essential to take charge of the various bio-psycho-social and relational factors and promote the psychosexual health and psychosocial well-being of the person with FGM/C, beyond her physical genital scarring
