Abstract

This paper builds on a paper I presented 30 years ago at the 100 Years of Psychoanalysis symposium held in Geneva in 1993, entitled Why have we ignored Freud the «pediatrician»? The relevance of Freud’s pediatric training to the origins of psychoanalysis. An interpretive proposal of the origins of psychoanalysis is provided, based on research of Freud’s pediatric activity and the vicissitudes of infantile sexuality in late 19th-century pediatrics.
