As a contribution to this body of work, we propose a special issue that explores both the potential and the challenges of studying elites beyond wealth, looking ethnographically at political, economic, religious and cultural elites. The aim of this call is to identify and understand the difficulties and challenges of conducting fieldwork on different elite groups. The idea of the call is to think about “what it means” to conduct ethnographic work among
