The Contribution of Social Sciences to the Development of Civic and Citizenship Education at School
Abstract
The contribution of the social sciences to the teaching of civic education in schools in Italy is marginal, unlike what happens in many European countries and the United States. The reasons for this marginality are considered. Starting from the analysis of the limits of the law that institutes civic education in Italian schools of all levels, the essay addresses the issue of the shortcomings of the school curricula and how it is possible to overcome them.
