Abstract

This essay presents the results of a research that investigated the role of parents in the governance of Italian schools. School principals and parents’ representatives were asked about the temporal organization of the schools and the economic involvement of families. This analysis, in consideration of the presence of parents in the collegial bodies of the school, helps us to understand if the involvement of families in school governance can be considered a non-traditional factor of school inequality and a consequence of a not so efficient welfare state.
