From Lifelong Learning to the Provincial Centers for Adult Education (CPIA). What Scenario in Italy?

Abstract

The changes of society pose new challenges in terms of adult education and training. The theme of lifelong learning and the key competences underlying have been at the center of the political debate for long time. Improving and developing adult education is one of the goals set on the political agenda of many countries. In Italy, the reform implemented by the law n. 263/2012 launched the new adult education system giving to CPIAs the task of taking up the challenges of a constantly changing context and providing the possibility of training to all age group of adult population in terms of lifelong learning. Although the reform has introduced changes in the adult education system in Italy, serious difficulties remain in applying it. Therefore, the paper aims at outlining the scenario of CPIAs in Italy and discuss the practical implications of implementing the reform.
