Abstract
The aim of this article is to examine again the complex political dialectic among Machiavellian political subjects, and in particular to show the absence of an ancient source behind the original Machiavellian construction of the «civil prince». So the civil prince described in chapter IC of the "Prince" becomes the real protagonist of Machiavellian politics, meant as the heroic struggle, but doomed to failure, against the collapse of the state.
