Land Development in Hong Kong
Abstract
This paper attempts to provide a nuanced understanding of land development in Hong Kong. Instead of relying on dualistic categories of the Global North and the Global South to comprehend Hong Kong as part of the latter, this paper argues for the existence of the mutual embeddedness between two polar opposites, as informed by the tongbian philosophy. Accordingly, land development in the city is the outcome of the mutual embeddedness of the Chinese customary land practices and the Western land practices in concrete time-space.
