Abstract
this article analyses the activity carried out by Francesco Crispo Moncada on the italian eastern border between 1919 and 1924. in this period, the officer covered different roles of responsibilities, including that of prefect of trieste after the taking of power by Fascism. Here Crispo Moncada proved to be not only a defender of the italianity of those places from the "Slavic threat", but also an enemy of political subversion. Mussolini judged so positively his work that in 1924 appointed him chief of the police.
