Abstract
The paper illustrates a "problem based" didactic approach. The piece of music is analysed in layers - perhaps even ignoring dramatic succession - by focussing first on the more intuitive and "external" aspects of the composition (the terminology reflects general characteristics of the various sections). Thence one arrives at the formal structure of the piece and finally at the function of text and music within the framework of an overall dramatic strategy. The presentation means that a didactic approach initially designed for first level university students can also be used with school pupils. Further areas of in depth study (perhaps not directly related to the actual piece of music itself, or perhaps involving issues of musical theory) will depend on the time available and upon the actual goals set.
