Abstract

People belonging to different cultures may behave differently when performing cognitive tasks, and people who have internalized more than one culture may behave in ways characteristic of one or the other culture under different circumstances. Based on a brief overview of the first studies on cross-cultural differences in perception and the first studies on multicultural people in the interpretation of stimuli, this article specifically addresses the topic of cultural differences in reasoning. The aim is to stimulate reflection on the relationship between cognitive strategies and culture among researchers in other areas of cognition.
