Abstract

Two experiments were carried out to investigate whether face preference requires the unique structure of the face, represented by the relative spatial location of its internal features, or rather more general structural properties that other stimuli may also possess. A previous study demostrated that a greater number of components in the upper portion of a geometrical stimulus is critical in determinig newborns' visual preference. Evidence will be presented showing that this property plays a crucial role also for face preference.
