Abstract
Visual object recognition has been the focus of a number of studies carried out in different areas of science, ranging from cognitive science to neuroscience. The aim of the present review is to sum up the most relevant suggestions delivered by numerous scientists in order to help the understanding of how humans and animals recognise the surrounding world. In addition, an attempt to show advantages and weaknesses of the different approaches has been made, with the intention of offering a critical key to read the literature in question.
