Abstract

The most recent research on the cognitive processes have emphasized the growing interest and the importance in the study of inhibitory processes. The research with the stop-signal paradigm made its important contribution to the theoretic and empirical definition of the inhibitory processes. The present review will present the main important contributions of the research lead with this paradigm, that is able to measure the capacity of voluntary and behavioural inhibition. This review will try to outline the possible future line of research in the behavioural and voluntary inhibition processes, by means of this instrument.
