Abstract
The review summarises about twenty-five years of literature on interest and learning, focusing in particular on the main empirical findings, critical aspects of the field, and some possible directions for future research. The theoretical debate regarding the definition of interest, and the main results of the research on the impact of interest on text comprehension are reported. The influence of this debate and empirical research findings on the relation between interest and learning in specific domains are analysed.
