Abstract

Attentional capture phenomenon consists in shifts of attention due to a singleton stimulus (in color, form, etc.) embedded among other stimuli in the visual field. This review is aimed at presenting the main findings of the psychological studies conducted in the last ten years. Models and theoretical contributions related to the mechanisms underlying visual attention and attentional capture will be emphasized. Finally, a critical discussion concerning the different theoretical and empirical perspectives will be presented.
