Abstract
Two experiments were carried out to demonstrate the existence of a global precedence effect in newborns, as it was found in adults and in 3-4-month-old infants. The results demonstrated that, when the two levels of visual information were equally discriminable, newborns showed an asymmetric interference between the two levels. This finding provides evidence for a processing dominance of global over local information.
