Abstract
The build-up of proactive interference during working memory updating of stimulus-location associations was investigated. In particular, a «release from proactive interference» paradigm was adopted. This means that interference from prior learned stimuli can be reduced if there is a change in the type of the to-be-remembered stimuli (e.g. a switch from letters to digits). Interference was evaluated through a memory recognition test on intrusions. Results showed that proactive interference can be reduced. They have been discussed with reference to relevant literature.
