The return of the Taliban on the national and international scene has contributed to the global conversation on the role of universal human rights, the possibility of legal transplants, exportability of rights and the role of Western states. Considering recent developments, this contribution investigates the impact of the failure of state building attempts in Afghanistan on freedom of religion or belief and women’s rights
