Abstract

This contribution investigates the connection between citizenship and religious affiliation. The two are related even during historical periods in which we have seen a competition of loyalties based on one or the other. Special attention is paid to Italy, historically linked to the Catholic tradition, which now provides additional influences of originality and disequilibrium.
