Abstract
This article analyses the peculiar situation of Israel in relation to religion, which is managed through a system in which the rights of minority religious communities in matters of personal status (especially family law) are guaranteed. This system poses several problems and challenges, notably challenges to the secularity of the state and equality of all citizens before the state, which is the foundation of democratic states.
