Abstract
The question of freedom of religion and conscience challenges the evolution of societies and states in the Muslim world. The question entails two issues: «minority rights» and individual freedom of belief and conscience. The challenge is linked to a profound transformation of Muslim societies, which are in the process of moving from a «holistic» to an individualistic culture.
