Abstract
Italy has been described as an exception to other European nations struck by jihadist terrorism. Because of Italy's non-aggressive secularity, Muslims have integrated themselves more easily into the Italian social fabric. On the other hand, the full-fledged integration of Muslims is obstructed by the absence of state recognition of Islam and increasing an¬ti-Muslim feelings. Ambiguous signals are coming also from Italian Islamic communities, which have unresolved internal tensions.
