Abstract
The article begins with an assessment on how Umberto Romagnoli was able to reflect on legal ideas starting from their historical origins and from the contexts in which the rules took shape. Following, analyzing Romagnoli’s 1967 book, it is highlighted how the author was able to decode some elements of the employment relationship starting from the study of the pecunia opera company. Finally, after recalling Romagnoli’s ideas on severance pay, it is clarified what Romagnoli meant by “double aliennessµ in the study of the employment contract and how this idea is still relevant.
