Abstract
The paper discusses trade unions' role in the "jobs society" where the traditional patterns of intervention founded upon a strong commitment for egalitarianism are declining. New forms of work, in many cases placed in an area traditionally considered of self-employment, urge the industrial unions to revise the idea of solidarity as a resource that must be built.
