Abstract

In the essay, the author analyses if a European Social Model has never existed and which are its main characteristics. To this extent, he considers the evolution of European Law on employment, social security and social protection. He underlines how the social progresses reached by European Union are currently under-threaten by the social dumping and by the unequal balance between economic freedoms and social rights established in some case law of the European Court of Justice. In order to strengthen the European Social Model, it is therefore necessary to reduce the social differences among the Member States and to improve the political and social integration in Europe.
