Abstract
The essay reflects on the present and the future of collective bargaining in the private sector, investigating on the substance of real negotiating processes, to detect the system's criticalities and point out perspectives for a change. In particular, the author calls attention to the role of the social partners, and to the need for them to overcome pessimism by enhancing skills and knowledge, in order to face the challenge of innovation.
