Abstract
Rereading Flavia Franzoni’s work, the profile of a social scientist capable of combining theoretical and empirical analysis of social policies and their macro systems with an interest in micro systems of social intervention on the ground emerges clearly. In order to face the current challenges and the risks that can be taken if inclusive policies are not pursued, it is necessary to strengthen social and community ties: a strong weakening of them creates not a few difficulties for the plans of social cohesion. What is needed, then, is a dense and intensive social work on the ground, aimed at maximizing the network of services and strengthening the community as a resource. A «competent» community, continuous dialogue, widespread responsibility, participation and a dense network of relationships constitute the best antidote to social disintegration, as well as to the worsening of gaps and inequalities.
