Abstract
Social isolation is not still considered as an important phenomenon in developmental and risk psychology. Several factors have made this phenomenon difficult to identify. The purpose of this paper is to provide a picture of social isolation, to define its construct and to clarify its different aspects, peculiarities, valence and implications on individual development.
