Abstract
This study is aimed to examine the role of Executive Function (EF) in emerging math and literacy ability in 5-to-6 years old children attending the last year of kindergarten. Some aspects of EF in preschool have been found related to succeeding measures of academic ability, suggesting a close and specific relationship between EF during preschool period and early academic achievement. Seventy-six children were evaluated during their last year of kindergarten. Every child was evaluated on a comprehensive battery of 7 tests assessing different cognitive abilities related to EF and on a battery assessing emerging literacy and math abilities. Some EF measures assessed in preschool were found to be associated with early literacy and mathematics achievement.
