Abstract
The recent allegations of antisemitism against the curatorial team of documenta 15 was a moment in which the contradictions within and between politics and art were once again brought to the fore. The appointment of a collective from Indonesia as directors of documenta 15 articulated deeper tensions over the status of process-oriented and socially engaged art in the contemporary art world. This article seeks to unpack the background to the conjunction between the new racism and formalist concerns that came to the fore in documenta 15.
