Abstract
The essay examines the different ways in which the multiple revival involving the figure of Goethe is articulated, along with its significant influence, in Gramsci’s thought. The analysis of the whole amount of evidence in his opera omnia reveals the presence of Goethe since his time in Turin, denoting it as a reference point within the framework of an expected ideological-cultural renewal, and it shows the centrality of his name in the literary reflections, philosophical matters and historical-theoretical cruxes particularly near and dear to Gramsci during the years of his long imprisonment.
