Abstract
The focus of this work is on sulphur and the sulphur’s industry in Sicily in the last decades of the nineteenth century. This theme is very important in the Novelle per un anno of Luigi Pirandello and it’s on a lot of his novelle, some very wellknown (as Ciàula scopre la luna), and some less popular (as Lo spirito maligno and others). The cases studies are compared with some travel notes of Guy de Maupassant, who did the Grand tour and visited the Sicily in that period, to better know the contest of Pirandello’s description
