Abstract

This short note provides a more precise date for Juan de Segovia’s Super materia contractuum de censibus annuis – a tract on rent or census contracts produced during the Council of Basel in the 15th century. Beyond the dating question itself, it is also argued that this question sheds light on Segovia’s use of the council protocols. It is further argued that Segovia’s tract on these contracts underscores the continuity between the two major reform councils of the 15th century, namely the Councils of Constance and Basel.
