Abstract

This paper reconstructs the fluctuating fortunes of the Institute of History of Universities of the University of Parma founded in 1957. On the one hand, it does this by relating events surrounding the Institute with important milestones prior to its founding (from the drafting of the Relazioni in 1886 and 1923, to the creation of the University Board for the History of Universities in 1939) and, on the other, by highlighting current issues and perspectives. It concludes by providing an overview of the documents held in the University’s Historical Archive, which has close ties with the Institute.
