Abstract

Salvador Dalí is one of the most controversial and paradoxical artists of the twentieth century. During his career, he experienced every form of expression of visual culture. Within this context, the relationship he cultivated with television is the less studied part of his poetics. This essay focuses on the videos stored in the Italian archives to understand his complex television strategies and his specific contribution to the medium in Italy. This audiovisual material represents a huge base of unknown heritage, where every piece, quoting Malraux, is part of the wonderful archive without walls that television is.
